How The California Wildfires of Palisades, Eaton Canyon, and Eaton Altadena Started

A company specializing in electrical activity observed a sharp rise in power grid faults near three significant Los Angeles County fires shortly before they ignited.

Bob Marshall, CEO of Whisker Labs, told The Times that significant fault increases were recorded in the areas around the Eaton, Palisades, and Hurst fires before the incidents. These faults, often caused by tree limbs striking electrical wires or colliding, can produce sparks that may ignite fires.

"There are various activities in Eaton Canyon," Garcia noted. "The public was present when it occurred, and power lines run through the area. Our teams are investigating all potential ignition sources.”

The wildfires sweeping through Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and Malibu stem from extreme weather and insufficient preventative measures. Strong Santa Ana winds, record-low humidity, and prolonged drought have contributed to the uncontrollable spread.

Initial reports suggest that many fires were sparked by power lines and dry vegetation and exacerbated by utility companies' underinvestment in wildfire mitigation.

These fast-moving blazes have destroyed homes, displaced thousands, and challenged firefighting resources across Southern California.

A brush fire in the Santa Clarita area near Dry Gulch Mountainway and San Francisquito Canyon Road burned one acre before being contained. Meanwhile, in Pasadena, the Bert Fire quickly grew to three acres, threatening nearby structures until it was controlled.

After 20 years of jury trials and serving in lead roles in some of the largest personal injury cases in Ohio and around the country, Mark DiCello co-founded DiCello Levitt to create a first-of-its kind firm that brought together top talent in the most important areas of complex litigation.

Beginning his career as an Assistant County Prosecutor, Mark honed his trial skills, streamlining and simplifying issues being presented to juries. After representing the state in criminal matters, Mark wanted to turn his attention to ensuring that victims were represented in other ways: via the private civil justice system.

Mark's clients range from individuals suffering catastrophic personal injuries to groups of plaintiffs harmed by medical devices, pharmaceutical products, chemicals, automobiles, and more. He has led headline-grabbing mass tort and product liability cases and co-led massive multidistrict litigations. For nearly 20 years, Steve Jodlowski has been actively involved in a variety of cases involving securities fraud, antitrust, competition, corporate takeover, consumer fraud, and commercial litigation. Representing investors, shareholders, and policyholders, he has recovered nearly $2 billion for clients around the world.

Steve has represented institutional and individual shareholders in corporate takeover actions and breach of fiduciary litigation in state and federal court. He has handled pre- and post-merger litigation stemming from the acquisition of publicly listed companies in the biotechnology, oil and gas, information technology, specialty retail, electrical, banking, finance and real estate industries, among others.
